THE SOUTH COMMON MARKET

MERCOSUR

The South Common Market, commonly known as MERCOSUR, is the common market formed by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, and recently have joined Chile and Bolivia as associated members to the customs union.

The population of the four founders countries is more than 200 millions and the GNP is US$ 900 billion.

The territory covers 12 millon Km2(4.6 millon mi2), wich means the 70 percent of the South America land, including all the climates, from northern Brazil to the Antarctic.

The zone is one of the world's most rich regions in agricultural and mineral resources.

From the point of view of economic advantages, a common external tariff has been established. Inside the territory most of the products are traded free of tariffs.

So, it doesn´t matter where a company may be, it can sell to the hole market free of tariffs.
